Pratiharas
A branch of the Gurjaras. They ruled over Kanauj from the middle of the ninth century until 1018. The Pratiharas con-trolled Gwalior until 1234. The last ruler of the dynasty, Mangal Deo, defeated by lltutmish (1211-1236), escaped to Narwar to be ousted from there the next year. Remnants of the Pratihara chiefs in the region were finally subjugated by Muhammad bin Tughlaq (1325-1351).
